Biocidal Hand Products Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words
Biocidal Hand Products - Essay Example The number of hospitals using waterless alcohol hand sanitizer has doubled since 2001. These findings apply to nurses washing hands during routine patient-care activities on the general patient floor as well as to pre-op surgical preparation and post-op hand washing in the hospital operating recovery room. Hand hygiene is widely acknowledged as the single most important activity for reducing the spread of disease. (Boyce J M, Pittet D 2002) Hand washing is a simple habit that requires minimal training and no special equipment and is one of the best ways to avoid getting sick. Despite the proven health, benefits of hand washing many people do not practice this habit as often. Infectious diseases commonly spread through hand-to-hand contact as the common cold, flu and several gastrointestinal disorders such as infectious diarrhoea. (A A P, 2003) Inadequate hand hygiene also contributes to food-related illnesses such as Salmonella and E.Coli infection. Hand washing is considered the most effective way of reducing cross infection and the number one way to prevent disease. (Boyce J M, 2001).Earlier people washed their hands with water, sand, animal products, sanitary wipes, bar, liquid, flake and foam soaps. The waterless hand sanitizer gels and sprays is the most recent development in hand washing products. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers that do not require water are an excellent alternative to hand washing particularly when soap and water are not available. (Kelliher S, Vallande N, 2000) They are actually more effective than soap and water in killing bacteria and viruses that cause disease. There is decreased skin irritation and dryness. (Kampf G, et al 2005) The active ingredient in these sanitizers is alcohol. 1.1 There are two different products for hand hygiene: 1.1.1 Antiseptic wash lotions: rinse-off products 1.1.2 Alcohol based liquids: leave-on products used for hand disinfection. The European requirement for medicated soaps in bacterial suspension testing, require a reduction of at least 3 log 10 steps against the test bacteria. Alcoholic hand disinfectants are required to reduce the count of test bacteria by a minimum of 5 log 10 steps within the same application time. The safety margin for the user is 100-fold higher with alcohol-based rub-in products. 1.2 Alcoholic hand wash gels are transparent, uniform, easily deformed dispersed systems consisting of at least two components. One is a fluid acting as a dispersing agent and the other a structure-giving component, a solid colloidal material. This stabilizes the fluid part by forming a three dimensional network. There are many types of gels: 1.2.1 Hydro gels: consist of fluid and water. 1.2.2 Alcohol gels: consist of fluid and alcohol. 1.2.3 Lipogels: fluid and liquid fats e.g. Paraffin. 1.2.4 Surfactant gels: fluid and water or surfactant mixture. Hydro gels and Alcohol gels have a distinct cooling effect mainly due to the evaporation of the water or alcohol. The structure-giving component is organic or inorganic, hydrophilic or lipophilic, synthetic or natural. Polyacrylic acid that has a marked penetration effect is used in alcohol gels. 1.3 Antiseptics and disinfectants are extensively used in hospitals and other health care settings for a variety of topical and hard-surface applications. Risk Involved in Foreign Direct Investment Essay
Risk Involved in Foreign Direct Investment - Essay Example Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) is responsible in regulating the telecommunications sector. The political aspect is also explored as it is the political system that drafts the rules that outline how business operations are run. In conclusion, I argue that multinational companies need to strike a consensus with the Sri Lanka government in reference to regulatory conditions. As it will become clear in this paper, the role of multinational corporations in the development of economies cannot be underestimated. However, some risks for example those related to the political aspect of governance may prove to be a big obstacle to multinational corporations seeking to invest in Sri Lanka. It is on this basis that this paper comes up to consider the response options available to multinational corporations that operate in the country. Through the use of questionnaires, data relating to the operation of multinational corporations and the risks involved is collected. Through the use of statistical means the data is compiled and analysed. The study finds out that indeed there are political and regulation risks that define operations of multinational corporations in Sri Lanka. This regulation becomes a critical aspect as the rules and regulations are not applied across the board. Through the use of econometric analysis, it is found that political and regulation risks are statistically significant as they influence investing patterns. The small inflow of FDI indicates the response by MNCs towards such regulation. It is however proposed in this paper that the firms should respond by negotiating with governments rather than such withdrawals. It is concluded on the basis of the findings that there indeed exist a connection between political and regulation risks and operations of MNCs in Sri Lanka (Akram 2003).

Marketing Strategy Essay Discuss the type of product the company will offer and identify its primary characteristics The type of product the company will offer is a bracelet called Life Alert band. The characteristics of this device are size and the ease of use along with a lifetime guarantee. The Life Alert band is light and portable that no one will even know itââ¬â¢s on his or her wrist. Itââ¬â¢s the size of a thick rubber band and comes in different wrist sizes. It has one easy to access button with an emergency icon that only needs to be pushed once to alert the Life Alert call center in the event of an emergency. The bracelet has several hidden sensors that monitor a personââ¬â¢s pulse and blood sugar and wirelessly sends this information to the Life Alert monitoring centers. If a change is detected in any of the monitors the bracelets sends a signal to the centers for immediate action. The Life Alert medical counselors immediately call the patient to see if they are ok. If no response is received they dispatch emergency responders right away. The bracelets uses flash memory to keep the device slim and flexible. It has a flexible band that can bend slightly. The material of the bracelet is a made of hard rubber that protects the electronics and its sensors. The bracelet requires a one-time setup much like a cell phone has to be programmed by Life Alert in order to ensure communication is occurring with their monitoring centers. The device has wifi built in for local communication. Users who have a wireless network can browse directly to the bracelet using a web browser. This gives them access to all the information the bracelet is recording. Discuss the product branding strategy Entrepreneur magazine states that a branding strategy is how, what, where, when and to whom you plan on communicating and delivering on your brand messages. Where you advertise is part of your brand strategy (Enterpreneur, 2011). In this case a brand is name that consumers associate with a device or service. Life Alert has many devices, all which bare its name on it. For example wireless companies such ATT sell cell phones from different manufactures but all of them have the name ATT on them and their logo. This goes for any large company that sells multiple products even if the products are manufactured by another company. Another good example is Apple. Apple has mp3 players, desktops, laptops, and other computer peripherals, all have the Apple logo on them. Therefore, the branding approach for the Life Alert bracelet will be the umbrella branding approach. The umbrella approach will help Life Alert in promoting their popular name even further. In a survey taken by ACNielsen International Research, 87% of Life Alert members said that Life Alertââ¬â¢s protection is a main or important factor in their decision to keep living at home rather than going to a retirement institution (lifealert911, 2011). Life Alert members on an average spend 6 more years living alone because of their services. The bracelet will not only enhance their product line but attract more customers. The introduction of this bracelet will increase their customer base and maybe appeal to those who have a serious illness. The bracelet will become the main entity of the product line with Life Alertââ¬â¢s name and logo. Discuss how the product fits within a product line and the depth and breadth of the line. Life Alertââ¬â¢s bracelet is a unique product that has carved a niche in the medical devices industry. It fits into health care products that offer emergency services for monitoring and addressing health related issues. It addresses a void in the industry and aims to support independence in aged adults by providing state of the art monitoring and emergency services. The distinctive aspect of the Life Alert bracelet is that it is both broadens and intensifies in scope in terms of its breadth and depth. It fits well into the product line Life Alert offers. Itââ¬â¢s an extension of the current product offerings. Some of the functionality the bracelet offers crossââ¬â¢s over to other product categories. For example the bracelet now becomes competitive with blood glucose meters. Regardless, the bracelet extends the depth and breadth of the company. Explain how the product and target market strategies fit with the organizational strategy. The organizational strategy is based around a few key factors. The companyââ¬â¢s business domain is clearly defined and is focused towards Mature 50+ adults who wish to live an independent lifestyle. The factors that are considered are mainly geographical location, age, retirement lifestyle and medical needs. The strategy is effective as it concentrates on a few key product and ervices. Life alert employs niche marketing to devise a product strategy aimed at that targets mature 50+ adults residing mostly in Florida, which is a popular retirement destination, who are currently living a retired lifestyle and desire a degree of independence and who may or may not have specific medical needs. The Life Alert bracelet fits into the organizational strategy for Life Alert. Introducing the bracelet will solidify the stance in the market. The organizational strategy for Life Alert is to be most innovative company in assisting the elderly. Life Alert can take advantage of its existing organizational strategy to support and market the bracelet. The company can further expand its diversified portfolio of services by using its existing infrastructure and the multifaceted use of its core resources. By including and expanding on existing product offerings the company can reduce cost and maximize return on resources. Life alert bracelet can utilize the infrastructure for Life Alert Necklace, security, monitoring and emergency response services with minor additions. All of these services employ the same core organizational set up, which is the monitoring center, which maximizes service offering with minimal investment. The marketing strategy includes Ads in local newspapers or niche publications, Opt-in web sites that make use of keywords to connect with potential customers, direct mail campaigns, as well publicity through Television developed for mature audiences. The bracelet can be incorporated under these existing marketing tools since itââ¬â¢s directed towards the same target audience. The ease of competitorsââ¬â¢ entry into Life Alertââ¬â¢s market segment is minimal as the company employs a profitable business model where users pay an initial set-up charge for the systems and the company generates revenues each month through subscription-based monitoring costs. The company also distributes medical alert system to more than 300 resellers and is one of the largest wholesale medical alarm distributors in the nation, with over 200,000 medical alert devices in service. The bracelet can be an adjunct to the existing portfolio and use the same monitoring system and distribution strategies in use. The business strategy also supports innovation and product development and at present only a couple companies offer a medical alarm with two-way voice. With an additional service such as the bracelet the company will be a step ahead of its competitors and can utilize its RD budget to support the new product. The companyââ¬â¢s ability to customize services and marketing different price points for packages will allow customers to use the bracelet with other Life Alert products and services. The new product aligns well with the companyââ¬â¢s organizational strategy and the same marketing strategy can be applied towards the Life Alert bracelet.

kathak dance :: essays research papers
Kathak is the classical dance of north indian style that was characterized by rhythmic footwork danced under the weight of more than 100 ankle bells, spectacular spins, and a representation of themes from Persian and Urdu poetry alongside those of Hindu mythology. The word kathak means "to tell a story". It is derived from the dance dramas of ancient India. Kathak arose from the fusion of Hindu and Muslim cultures that took place during the Mughal period. More than any other South Asian dance form, kathak expresses the aesthetic principles of Islamic culture. The origins of the kathak style lies in the traditional unfolding of Hindu myths by Brahmin priests called kathiks, who used mime and gesture for dramatic effect. Gradually, the storytelling became more stylized and developed into a dance form. With the arrival in northern India of the Mughals, kathak was taken into the royal courts and developed into a sophisticated art form; through the patronage of the Mughal rulers, kathak took its current form. The emphasis of the dance moved from the religious to the aesthetics. In cooperation with the aesthetics of Islamic culture, abhinaya which is defined as the use of mime and gesture, became more delicate, with emphasis placed on the performer's ability to express a theme in many different ways. There are two main centers of education called gharanas, which are both named after cities in northern India and which expanded under the patronage of regional princes. The Lucknow gharana developed a style of kathak that is characterized by precise, finely detailed movements and an emphasis on the exposition of thumri, (which is a semiclassical style of love song). The Jaipur gharana required a mastery of complicated pure dance patterns. Nowadays, performers present a blend of kathak based on the styles of both gharanas. A traditional kathak performance features a solo dancer on a stage, surrounded on all sides by the audience.

WTO Dispute Settlement Understanding: Case Studies Essay -- World Trade
WTO Dispute Settlement Understanding: Case Studies The World Trade Organization implemented the Dispute Settlement Understanding (DSU) as a means for member countries to settle trade disputes in an orderly process. The process involves an alleged injured country (complainant) filing a request for consultations with the alleged injuring party (respondent). If the consultations do not result in a mutually acceptable outcome, the complainant may request a Panel to hear the case and provide recommendations in accordance with GATT other WTO agreements. If either party disputes the outcome, they may appeal to the Appellate Body (AB), which may uphold or overturn the panelââ¬â¢s decision. Compliance with the recommendations is not compulsory however if a country does not conform to recommendations, the other party may request and impose sanctions on the other party if they are granted (Trebilock, Howe, & Eliason, 2013). Following are summaries of three cases presented before the Dispute Settlement Body. Japan ââ¬â Measures Affecting the Importation of Apples On March 1, 2002, the United States (US) filed a request for consultations with Japan concerning their Sanitary Phytosanitary (SPS) regulations. At issue was Japans policy of restricting importation of apples from the US to prevent against fire blight bacterium. Since 1994, Japan had required triannual inspection of US apple orchards for fire blight, and banned importation from any orchard showing sign of the blight within a 500-meter perimeter of the orchard. It further required the sanitization of harvested apples with chlorine. The US argued Japan's measures appear to be inconsistent with the obligations of Japan under Article XI of GATT 1994, Articles 2.2, 2.3, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5... ...pan - Measures affecting the importation of apples - Report of the panel. Project on E- Tailing
DFHYCGVSDYHJ E-Tailing E-tailing or E-retailing refers to the selling of retail goods electronically over the Internet. The term is a short form for ââ¬Å"electronic retailingâ⬠, and surfaced in the 1990s for being frequently used over the Internet. The term is an inevitable addition to other similar terms such as e-business, e-mail, and e-commerce. E-tailing usually refers to the business-to-consumer (B2C) transactions. Online retailing is classified into three main categories: 1. Click ââ¬â The businesses that operate only through the online channel fall into this category.Prominent examples in this category include: Dell, Amazon. com and e-Bay. 2. Click and Brick ââ¬â The businesses that use both the online as well as the offline channel fall into this category. Common example includes: Barnes and Noble's. 3. Brick and Mortar ââ¬â This is the conventional mode of retailing. The businesses that do not use the latest retailing channels and still rely upon the conve ntional mode belong to this category. E-tailing offers the consumers huge amounts of information in the form of web sites with useful links to similar sites that allows consumers to compare products by looking at individual items. The convenience of online shopping is unmatched indeed. Shopping out of your home or office reduces the stresses of waiting in lines and dealing with irritating sales people. E-tailing causes problems with fit, since the consumer cannot try the items on. Return policies may also act as turn offs and items can be difficult to return. The shipping and handling costs may turn the customers away. E-tailing requires technology savvy customers and this puts a limit on its potential reach. E-tailing is emerging as an interesting phenomenon in the retail industry that is on a rise despite the disadvantages associated with it.Advantages of e ââ¬âtailing * Minimal investment * Comfortable and easy to use * Customer interaction * Mass media * Search option * User friendly * Global reach Disadvantages of e-tailing * Security issues * Customer retention * Unsuitable for certain product categories * Complicated medium * Shopping is still a touch-feel-hear experience * Limited access to internet Yebhi Yebhi began as BigShoeBazaar. com, has a registered user base of about 1. 5 million people, of who about half a million have transacted on the site.Nex+ 9us Venture Partners and N.
